New Live Upstream Bandwidth Demo at ANGA Cable Show

It’s amazing what a ten-year-old platform can still accomplish. Today Motorola is demonstrating the new RX48 upstream module for the BSR 64000 CMTS out at the ANGA Cable Show. The RX48 card was announced back at SCTE in October, but to my knowledge this is the first live demo of the technology. Like the TX32 downstream card, the RX48 slots into Motorola’s time-tested BSR 64000 to increase port density and create more bandwidth capacity in a single chassis. The RX48 increases upstream port density by 600%, and, when installed with the BSR 64000, offers nearly 1.5 Gbps of upstream capacity per module.

The RX48 is shipping to customers for field trials beginning on July 1st, and Motorola has customers lined up in every region for testing. It turns out: solutions to create more upstream capacity are not a hard sell.

Also of note from ANGA, Motorola is introducing a new compact optical node today for the European market. The MCN100 is part of the company’s fiber-deep portfolio for cable operators.
