Dan Moloney Returns as President of Motorola Mobility

I had another post all set to run when the big news hit. Dan Moloney is returning to Motorola in the role of President of the new Motorola Mobility business.

Although change has been a way of life at Motorola for several years, Dan Moloney was a constant within the Home and broadband part of the business until very recently. Prior to acquisition in 2000, he served at General Instruments, which became the foundation for Motorola Broadband, and which evolved into what is today called Motorola Home. Moloney left Motorola in February to become CEO of component company Technitrol. According to today’s press release, he will stay on the Board of Directors at Technitrol even while returning to Motorola to take on his new role starting September 1st.

Dan Moloney’s knowledge of the Motorola Home business is unmatched, and I imagine he’s excited by the opportunities for evolution ahead. Like the rest of the TV and broadband industry, there continues to be a lot of change underway at Motorola, but having a proven leader at the helm will help in setting a steady course.

One of Dan Moloney’s last big trade events with Motorola was CES 2010. It’s good to know he’ll be back for CES 2011.
