A Visit from Congresswoman Niki Tsongas

Government relations doesn’t only happen down in Washington. Recently, Congresswoman Niki Tsongas took a tour of one of the Motorola offices for Access Networks Solutions in Lowell Massachusetts. VP of Engineering Gary Picard showed Congresswoman Tsongas around, and used the opportunity to highlight Motorola’s innovations and accomplishments in fiber-based telecommunications. Long known for its technology corridor outside of Boston, Massachusetts was recently home to one of the first 10-Gbps field trials, which used existing Motorola optical equipment to drive symmetrical residential broadband speeds close to 1 Gigabit-per-second.

The Motorola team in Lowell also walked the Congresswoman through Motorola’s economic impact on the local community with the creation of more than 120 new engineering positions in Lowell since its opening, and the spending of more than $16M annually with local technology and technology suppliers. The Motorola government relations team reviewed key legislative topics as well, touching on broadband reclassification, the FCC’s AllVid initiative, and current discussions on the government’s plans for D-Block spectrum. All in a day’s work.
