Medios Gets European Introduction at IBC

IBC  2010 kicks off today in Amsterdam, and I should soon have direct reports from the show floor. Motorola is on site (F30, Hall 1), and is introducing the Medios suite of software services for the first time to the European market. The introduction is timely, as John Moulding over on the IBC blog reports that “We expect IBC this year to be remembered as the one where three-screen TV came of age.”

The conversation around multi-screen delivery has progressed since Medios was first launched back at the Cable Show in the US. Broadly defined, Motorola Medios is a suite of software products that together create a platform for managing media across multiple screens and rapidly deploying new TV services. However, Motorola execs have gotten more specific about how this platform works, and the benefits it provides. For example, by creating a Web-like development environment, service providers can improve the TV navigation system to make both content search and content discovery a lot easier. By managing everything in the cloud, providers can also enable greater content mobility, ensuring that content can migrate across different types of networks and on to different types of devices.

In addition to Medios, Motorola will highlight the new M3 Media Server family at IBC, as well as 3D technology delivered through IPTV set-tops. Stay tuned for more news too.
